Another round of storms expected late Tuesday

CHICAGO (CBS) — Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop again across the area after 6 p.m. Tuesday evening with the threat of more damaging winds.

Tuesday evening's storm risk comes after widespread tree damage and torrential rain from morning thunderstorms.

There was speculation about whether the atmosphere would recharge after the round of storms that brought bomb-like thunder and heavy rain to the area Tuesday morning.

Indeed the atmosphere has recharged, and will produce scattered damaging storms again Tuesday evening, with scattered rain persisting through Wednesday morning.

The earlier storms forced a ground stop at O'Hare International Airport. The earlier storms were also blamed for a power line coming down on the road and causing a fire near Sugar Grove.

A quieter stretch of weather is in the forecast Wednesday afternoon and Thursday with cooler sunshine. The next severe thunderstorm threat rolls in late Friday.
