The Chicago Red Stars will be well represented on Emma Hayes’ United States Women’s Olympic Team when they travel to France later this summer after Alyssa Naeher and Mallory Swanson were named to the initial squad for the Summer Olympics.

The two will join the Olympic team after the Red Stars’ match at home against the Houston Dash on July 6.

This will be Naeher’s third Olympics after 2016 in Brazil and 2020 in Tokyo as she still looks for her first Gold Medal with the United States in this competition. Naeher was not called into Hayes’ June camp, the first for the new USWNT manager after she departed Chelsea, while dealing with a thigh injury that kept her out of two NWSL matches.

Swanson joins the Olympic team for the second time after being on the team as an 18-year-old in 2016. She will be looking to add to her 92 appearances, 34 goals and 28 assists with the United States as she will be a part of an attack that will be called into action early and often in France.

Naeher and Swanson will begin Olympic play in Group B on July 25 when they face off against Zambia before playing Germany and Australia on July 28 and July 31, respectively, to finish off group play.

Red Stars defender Sam Staab did not make the initial roster after being involved in Hayes’ camp earlier this month.
