Bears reportedly planning to learn from prior mistakes and take advantage of a key game on the 2024 NFL schedule

For the first time since 2019, the Chicago Bears are expected to play overseas during the upcoming 2024 season.

The Bears will be "hosting" the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.

Having an overseas game usually creates a lot of issues for teams during the season when it comes to travel arrangements and deciding when to schedule the flight across the pond. However, the Bears are reportedly going to learn from prior mistakes and take advantage of how their 2024 schedule is structured .

According to Nicholas Moreano , a source told him that the Bears plan to depart early in the week to London as opposed to later in the week. This will allow the team and players to get over any lingering jet lag that might occur during the five-hour time change following the trip before the team has to take the field. The last time the Bears travelled to London in 2019, the team arrived on Friday and lost 24-21 on Sunday.

Usually teams plan to wait under later in the week to depart for London so all the players can rest and rehab following their game the weekend before. The Bears will be playing an early Sunday game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 5 before their date against the Jaguars. Then, the team will have their bye week the week following.

This will be the first time a Matt Eberflus led team heads overseas and it seems the team's head coach is already making the right decision. New defensive coordinator Eric Washington also might have had some input after suffering the consequences of travelling later in the week to London in 2023 with the Buffalo Bills.

During the Bills' Week 5 game against the Jaguars, the team left for London on Thursday after practice, arriving Friday morning, and ultimately lost 25-20. Here's what Bills' head coach Sean McDermott had to say following the game.

“We’ll see whatever comes up down the road in terms of us coming back here,” McDermott said , “But we need to evaluate everything because I didn’t feel like our energy was good enough early in the game. They had better energy than we did.”

As for the Jaguars, it was the second of back-to-back games in London after playing the Atlanta Falcons overseas in Week 4. Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson even claimed that he felt like his players were well rested.

The Jaguars will once again play consecutive games in London this upcoming season, but the date against the Bears will be the first of those two games. This is great news for the Bears since it means both teams will be travelling the same week for the matchup, and the Bears are hoping to beat the Jaguars there by the sounds of it.

We'll see if the Bears' forward-thinking approach pays off or not once October rolls around.
