Brookfield Zoo Chicago seeks public’s help in naming Mexican wolf pup

BROOKFIELD, Ill. — Two months after being born at Brookfield Zoo Chicago, an endangered Mexican wolf pup has yet to be named. A zoo-led campaign is looking to change that.
While one pup is named Molly, the zoo seeks public input on four culturally and geographically relevant Mexican wolf female pup names for her sister.
Naming options include:
Esperanza —Spanish for “hope”—each new litter of pups brings hope that the species will continue to thrive.
Alma —Spanish for “soul”—many people have a deep connection with the wolves.
Sierra —Spanish for “mountain range” and the Mexican wolf’s historic range includes the Sierra Madre Mountains in Mexico.
Kelly —the namesake of natural landmarks where Mexican wolves have been reintroduced.
