The battle at the bottom of the Eastern Conference has begun to heat up and the Chicago Fire need a result in Seattle to maintain pace with the rest of the clubs fighting at the bottom of the table.

The Fire (4-6-9, 18 points, last in Eastern Conference) started incredibly slow last weekend in Orlando and were down 3-0 before 30 minutes had elapsed, losing the momentum they’d built by securing eight points in their previous four with a 4-2 loss in Florida.

With a goal in Seattle, Hugo Cuypers would tie Robert Berić and David Accam with a goal scored in five consecutive matches. The Fire’s club-record signing has finally hit his stride as July approaches and head coach Frank Klopas couldn’t be happier about that occurrence.

“I think it's good for the team. I think it's also good for Hugo,” said Klopas during his weekly media availability. “I think Hugo is definitely a person that cares and coming in, I knew that that's always going to be a period where he needs to adjust to the League, to his teammates, and he was trying extremely hard.

“And I think, you know, always I think sometimes when you try hard -- because he cares so much, he wanted to help the team right way, and I think it's taken some time but you can just see now, I think the goals have helped a lot from a confidence standpoint and also you can see now, you can see how he's moving in training, the form that he's in.”

Cuypers should be buoyed by Maren Haile-Selassie and Brian Gutiérrez at Lumen Field as all three players have contributed at least a goal in the last three.

The Sounders (6-7-7, 25 points, 10th in Western Conference) have won two of their last three while scoring seven goals in that span. Jordan Morris has scored in two of the last three for Seattle, which will be without Raúl Ruidíaz and Nouhou while attempting to snap a two-match losing streak against Chicago going back to 2020.
