The Chicago Blackhawks rounded out their 2024 NHL Draft by selecting six forwards and two defenseman. That said, the Blackhawks considered improving their goalie pipeline in the third round.

Per Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times, the Hawks considered selecting a goalie in the third round. Although no names were mentioned, Pope cites Mike Doneghey and the Blackhawks' belief in Drew Commesso and Adam Gajan as prospects while also looking at a strong crop of goalies in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Drew Commesso had a really solid season with the Rockford IceHogs in 2023-24. Although his 18-16-4 record doesn't jump off the page, Commesso posted a respectable 2.65 GAA , .906 save percentage, and two shutouts for the IceHogs. Commesso was also solid in the Calder Cup Playoffs, but the IceHogs couldn't get enough scoring to go on a run.

As for Gajan, he struggled a tad in the regular season with the USHL's Green Bay Gamblers. The 2023 draft pick got a lot of work in net, suiting up for 43 games. Despite a really good 23-12-4 record, Gajan posted a 3.35 GAA and a .893 save percentage. The Slovakian goalie was much better in the USHL's Clark Cup playoffs, posting a 2-2-1 record with a 2.86 GAA and .901 save percentage.

Without adding a goalie in 2024, the Blackhawks will surely consider a goalie in 2025. Gabriel D'Aigle, Love Harenstam, and Jack Ivankovic currently headline next year's class .

The Blackhawks were busy, and certainly could've used their 92nd pick , which was acquired via trade, to grab a goalie. Kyle Davidson was busy on Friday and Saturday, including trying to move back into the top 5 . Now that the dust has settled, it is encouraging seeing Davidson's aggressiveness to add high-level talent to the talent pool and build the Blackhawks into a contender sooner than later.
