Missing Taylor Casey: FBI use drones to search for Chicago woman who vanished at Bahamas yoga retreat

The FBI has been called in to assist with the search of Taylor Casey, a Chicago woman who went missing in the Bahamas almost two weeks ago.

The 41-year-old had traveled to the Caribbean island to attend the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Centre on Paradise Beach. She was last seen on June 19 and now the Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed that drones have been employed by the US agency.

National Security Minister Wayne Munroe said: “They [FBI] have made an extensive survey of the entire area using the drone technology that they have. I know they have used technology with regards to the cell phone of the individual. I know that they have interviewed people. I know they have met with a representative of the US government.”

However, the FBI is currently only providing advice to the Bahamas police at this point in the investigation and Munroe added that he is hopeful they will share every piece of information they can to help find Taylor. “We have engaged the resources of our law enforcement. We have gotten assistance from the law enforcement agency of the individual’s own country,” Munroe said amid criticism that local authorities aren't doing enough in the missing person case, reports Loop Caribbean News .

Police said they found Casey’s cell phone in the ocean near Paradise Island and have questioned several people after the retreat's employees first reported her disappearance when she failed to turn up for classes. “They were having sessions and classes and when they didn’t see her show up, they became very, very concerned and alerted authorities immediately after they recognized that she did not show up for her class," Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings said.

She added: “Since that report was made, we have conducted an extensive investigation into the matter." Following the discovery of her phone, the officer confirmed that Taylor's other belongings were still in the ashram.

Missing person posters were issued two days after she was reported missing but an investigative report from the island posted on X (formerly Twitter) last week claimed that no such flyers were visible. News Nation's Brian Entin described the area where Taylor disappeared as "stunningly beautiful" and said he was "surprised" he couldn't see any information about her.

"I was surprised there were no flyers anywhere, there were no posters. I thought maybe in the [ashram's] lobby that some of the guests would know what was going on," he said. He added that many guests checked in to the retreat last week and weren't aware that a woman went missing the week before, noting that he "even saw" a few missing person flyers on the roads for other people but "nothing" for Taylor.
