The Chicago Blackhawks are one of the first teams involved in the early rumors of the NHL free agency cycle. With the likes of Jake Guentzel signing in Tampa Bay and Sam Reinhart returning to Florida, the Blackhawks reportedly have made their first big free agency splash of Kyle Davidson's GM tenure.

Per a number of reports, including David Pagnotta of Fourth Period, the Blackhawks and forward Tyler Bertuzzi have agreed to terms on a deal. The contract is for four years and comes in at $5.5 million AAV.

Bertuzzi signed a one-year, prove-it deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. With a lack of cap space, the Maple Leafs decided not to re-sign Bertuzzi. That said, they have reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with former Blackhawk Max Domi to remain in Toronto. Now, Bertuzzi heads to the Windy City, marking this stop his fourth Original 6 franchise he's played for.

In 80 games with Toronto, Bertuzzi posted a 43-point campaign , potting 21 goals along the way. Bertuzzi's goal-scoring total would've been second on the Blackhawks behind only Connor Bedard and Jason Dickinson last season. Now, Bertuzzi should have more opportunity to produce at a higher clip with the Hawks.

The most surprising element of the signing is the term. Davidson has been clear about his approach on giving term to veterans. However, the 29-year-old Bertuzzi will be in Chicago through a large part of his prime with this four-year deal. In addition, it is showing the fans that the Blackhawks are serious about taking a step forward this coming season.

The Blackhawks are likely not done with moves on Monday. NHL free agency officially opens at 11:00 a.m. CDT. With the increase in the salary cap for the upcoming season, things will get wild in the NHL.
