The Chicago Blackhawks are going to be busy on Monday. After reportedly agreeing to terms with Tyler Bertuzzi ahead of free agency officially opening, the Blackhawks are adding to their defense. Per TSN's Bob McKenzie, veteran blue-liner Alec Martinez is joining the Blackhawks on a one-year deal.

The dollar value remains to be seen for the veteran, but this is surely a nice signing to help round out the blue line. Martinez played the last 4.5 seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights after spending nearly a decade with the Los Angeles Kings.

Unfortunately for Hawks fans, Martinez brings back bad memories. The blue liner infamously ended the Blackhawks Stanley Cup chances in 2014 with his goal off of Nick Leddy's shin pad.

Martinez is not known for his offense, tallying his career highs in his days with the Kings. Martinez's highest point total in a season is 39 back in 2016-17. That said, Martinez is a solid defensive defenseman and is a nice veteran to add on a one-year deal.

There is no such thing as a bad one-year deal. In this case, the Blackhawks get some well-needed experience to join their youth on the defensive side.

The Blackhawks are far from done in free agency. Kyle Davidson has been busy making this team better for the upcoming season.
