The Chicago Blackhawks added yet another player on the first day of NHL free agency. By signing six players and re-signing one player from a year ago, Kyle Davidson has dramatically improved the state of the roster. With their latest addition to the roster, the Blackhawks have added to their blue line by signing defenseman TJ Brodie to a two-year deal worth $3.5 million AAV.

Brodie spent the last four seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, tallying 26 points (one goals, 25 assists) in 78 games. Now, Brodie brings another veteran to the Blackhawks' blue line after inking Alec Martinez earlier in the day.

Brodie is known for blocking shots, and the Blackhawks made sure to improve in that category. After blocking 1,340 shots as a team last season, the Hawks added 324 blocks between Brodie and Martinez on Monday.

Brodie isn't the most overwhelming addition, but it is a solid add for Chicago. In addition, the blue line is deeper than it has been in quite some years, allowing this team to continue developing their younger defensemen at their pace with veterans being able to fill the necessary voids.

Due to the numbers on the blue line, there is a chance that Kevin Korchinski plays in the AHL this season. In addition, Artyom Levshunov is all but guaranteed to be in the AHL or back at Michigan State next season with the crowded blue line. At the end of the day, it is a good move allowing the young defensemen to develop and play big minutes in Rockford while taking another step forward in the rebuild.

Now, Davidson is likely done barring any unforeseen signings. Overall, the front office did a really nice job improving this roster for next season.
