(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Family and friends of a Chicago woman reported missing in the Bahamas are asking the U.S. government to get more involved in the search and investigation.

Taylor Casey, 41, was in the Bahamas for a yoga retreat when she was reported missing on June 20.

Her mother, Colette Seymore, and a small group of supporters spent three days in the Bahamas talking to police and people at the retreat. They also gathered Taylor's belongings from her tent at the yoga retreat.

After returning to the Chicago area, Seymore shared her frustration in a press release and described her visit to the retreat as "deeply unsettling." She noted that – to her – it appeared local police were not doing enough to investigate, and that students at the yoga retreat were told what to say and not say.

Seymour was made aware that her daughter was missing when someone from the retreat called her to ask if she had heard from her daughter. Seymore said she never got a straight answer about when Taylor was last seen, and that's when she started to worry.

Police in the Bahamas still have Taylor’s phone, which was recovered from the ocean .

Seymore said without support from the U.S. government she fears they will never find out what happened to Taylor.
