At this point, the Chicago Cubs have largely been considered sellers by both the national media and the fanbase. Although Wrigley Field continues to feature sellout crowds over the summer, the product on the field has hardly been worth the price of admission.

On Tuesday, the Cubs wanted to get back on track following Sunday's horrific loss , but instead followed it up with an almost identical performance.

    Tale of the Tape

Following a scoreless first for both sides, the Philadelphia Phillies got on the board first. A Nick Castellanos walk and Kody Clemens double put two on for Garrett Stubbs. Stubbs doubled to score both runners and give the visitors the early lead.

In the top of the third, the Phils added on. Trea Turner's fourth home run of the season made it a 3-0 game. The shortstop led the inning off with the blast, but the Phillies failed to add any more runs.

In the bottom of the third, the Cubs got one back. With Nico Hoerner on base, Cody Bellinger cranked a double into the right-center gap. Hoerner scored all the way from first giving the Cubs life with a 3-1 score.

However, things got worse. A two-run shot from Trea Turner in the fifth made it a 5-1 game, effectively leaving the Cubs with little hope. Hayden Wesneski got banged up on the day. The righty went 5.0 innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits and three walks. Wesneski punched out seven, but the two long balls from Turner did most of the damage.

For good measure, Turner scored Bryson Stott from second base in the seventh to make the score 6-1.

With their backs against the wall, the Cubs had one faux rally left in them. In the ninth inning, Michael Busch and Cody Bellinger reached on consecutive singles. With two on, Seiya Suzuki smacked his 11th homer of the season to make it a 6-4 game.

Despite the rally, the next three Cubs hitters went down quietly to end the comeback. The Phillies left Wrigley with a 6-4 win on Tuesday.

    Same Old, Same Old

Another poor offensive performance doomed the Cubs from the start. Despite collecting four runs on five hits, three of those Cubs hits came in the ninth. Producing two hits and two walks as your only baserunners for eight innings is unacceptable if you expect to win.

Unfortunately, the games continue to go the same way for the Cubs. It's constantly frustrating baseball with this team as the narrative for the trade deadline starts to take focus. At this pace, the Cubs will be sellers come the end of July.
