Angel Reese breaks down in tears after being picked for WNBA All-Star game and says ‘so many doubted me’

ANGEL Reese couldn’t hold back her emotions after opening up on being selected for the WNBA All-Star game.

The Chicago Sky rookie forward, 22, found out about her milestone on Tuesday night following her WNBA game.

Reese and the Sky defeated the Atlanta Dream on the road 85-77.

After the game, the 6-foot-3 rookie, who was named June’s WNBA Rookie of the Month, received the news that she was picked for the All-Star team shortly before speaking to reporters.

“They just told me I’m an All-Star and I mean, I’m just so happy. I know the work I put in,” Reese said while tearing up at the press conference.

“Coming into this league, so many people doubted me and didn’t think my game would translate and I wouldn’t be the player that I was in college or better or would be worse and wouldn’t be where I am right now.”

Reese set a league record for consecutive double-doubles (13).

The 2024 No. 7 overall pick credited head coach Terese Weatherspoon for her rookie campaign.

“She’s meant everything to me,” Reese said about coach Weatherspoon.

“I’ve had amazing coaches in my career but this one is special.”

Reese finished her message, saying, “I can’t thank my teammates and coaches enough for believing in me and trusting me … I’m really happy right now.”

The LSU product Reese will be joining a WNBA All-Star that includes longtime rival Caitlin Clark , Aliyah Boston, Dearica Hamby, and A’Ja Wilson, among others.

Clark received the most votes (more than 700,000) while Reese attracted 381,518 votes.

The two faced against each other in the national championship last season.

Last month, Clark was struck in the face by Reese during Indiana’s win over Chicago.

Reese and Clark will be part of a squad that plays against Team USA in a pre-Olympics event in Phoenix.

Neither rookie was selected to the US roster for the Paris Olympics which will take place later this month.

Reese leads the WNBA in rebounds (11.4).

Clark is third in the league in assists (6.9).

The WNBA All-Star festivities are set for July 20 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.

The event will include a three-point contest and skills challenge.
