CHICAGO — From parades to cookouts, Americans are celebrating freedom in a variety of ways, including soaking up some of Chicago’s favorite attractions downtown, like the Grant Park Music Festival.

Tara Koeshall, who lives in Indianapolis, said she will be enjoying the holiday at Millennium Park with her family, and everyone is feeling the Independence Day spirit across the city.

“We just took the train,” Koeshall said. “The train was decorated red, white and blue. It was amazing.”

Although fireworks will not be officially put on display by the City of Chicago tonight, those around Chicago are still encouraged to celebrate through music at the annual Grant Park Music Festival “Independence Day Salute,” which takes place in Millennium Park at 6:30 p.m.

“Fourth of July is the time when we just get to relax a little bit,” said Christopher Bell, a conductor of the Independence Day celebration. “The music is very patriotic, very uplifting, very inspirational.”
