The 2024 WNBA season has been highlighted by this year's rookie class. Stars like Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese have proven they belong in the WNBA with their performances on and off the court.
On Saturday, Clark and the Fever will meet Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty for the fourth time this season. A couple of days before the game, Stewart joined LSU Tigers star Flau'jae Johnson on her new podcast, ' Best of Both Worlds with Flau'jae .'
Johnson asked Steward which rookies have impressed her the most this year and Stewart didn't hesitate to give her thoughts on Clark and Reese.
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese look on during their game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on June 1, 2024.
"Obviously, you know Caitlin, the way that she's just coming and continue to kind of get Indiana back to where they were as far as attendance and stuff like that. You know, like she has range like no other," Stewart said.
Clark made her first All-Star team in her rookie year. She is also third in the league in three-pointers made.
Stewart continued, "I think Angel, the way she is constantly working hard, doing all the dirty work right now. Like rebounding, steals. Making sure she's in all the action in whatever way she can help her team."
Reese, like Clark, has also been named an All-Star. She currently leads the league in rebounds and is averaging a double-double on the season.
Stewart's comments sparked a debate amongst WNBA fans on which rookie, Clark or Reese, is better.
One fan said, "Notice she said Caitlin for the attendance she brought to the league not the skills, we all know she have range, there's a difference of range and game, all those WNBA girls shooting deep three's, to me Caitlin isn't doing anything differently to make her standout. The Iowa fans are lost in her college stats."
"Clark needs to work on defense, and she would be a little better," a fan responded.
"Angel is Roty, so far it ain't close. She’s more consistent than vets, and she’s dominating her position. CC is pretty good, but her game hasn’t translated yet," another added.
"CC is good, but she doesn't lead in any stats except turnovers; Angel Reese, at least, is at 1 or 2 in Rebounding. Plus, she broke the record for the most rookies consecutive double-doubles!"
"Bro, Caitlin beats her in every stat but rebounds and steals."
"Stewie quit being a hater, CC is a much better player than AR."
Clark and Reese are both having outstanding rookie seasons. Each player has done their part to improve their team, and both the Fever and the Sky are in a position to make the playoffs because of their rookies.
