Protestors Handcuff Themselves To Fence, Delay Start Of NASCAR Cup Series Street Race In Chicago

I guess that's what happens when you're racing in the middle of the street. We've seen cautions during NASCAR races before when drunk fans decided to get a little too close to the action and climb the fence at the track. Remember this guy at Richmond? https://twitter.com/NASCARONFOX/status/508628130446065665 But it's a little easier to get to the fence when the racetrack is just a street in the middle of the city like it is today in Chicago. As drivers fired the engines for today's Cup Series race on the Chicago street course, NASCAR immediately ordered them to turn the cars back off due to a "situation." And it turns out, the "situation" was some protestors who had climbed the fence and handcuffed themselves to the barrier in turn 3. https://twitter.com/MaryAnnAhernNBC/status/1810056873485197440 The individuals appeared to be supporters of Palestine protesting the war with Israel. https://twitter.com/ChrisTN97/status/1810055298809270700 https://twitter.com/currenrr/status/1810055983055426016 https://twitter.com/something_zrl/status/1810049877499334791 The protestors were eventually removed, but while all this was going on, the rains came and NASCAR ended up delaying the start of the race even further to allow teams the option to put on wet weather tires. The Grant Park 165 finally got underway without further delay, with Shane Van Gisbergen in the lead and trying to defend his title after winning the inaugural race last year in his first ever NASCAR start. Always a wild race in Chicago.
