Checking out Chicago's first Thai breakfast spot

I've loved all the Asian breakfasts sprouting up downtown, including Japanese at Miru , Korean at Perilla Steakhouse and Thai from Egg O Egg, which opened at Chicago Avenue and State Street earlier this year.

On the menu: The restaurant offers a slew of Western breakfast items (pancakes, waffles and eggs) along with seven Thai breakfasts for $13.95 each, including:

    • Congee: Rice porridge with chicken, pork, egg, crispy noodles, scallions and ginger.
    • Kao Man Gai Tod: Fried chicken, ginger rice, broth and a ginger sauce.
    • Moo Ping: Four pork skewers with sticky rice.

Dig in: I tried the Thai Northern Breakfast featuring five spicy, garlicky sausage patties, a cabbage salad and pancake of sticky rice, great for dipping in the pungent fish sauce.

The verdict: This blend of chewy rice, vibrant juicy sausage, fresh salad and intense dipping sauce has become my hands-down favorite breakfast in the city.
