NASCAR playoff standings, Cup points updated after Chicago Street Race

After an exhilarating Chicago Street Race, the NASCAR Cup Series’ playoff standings and Cup points have been shaken up due to the results of the Grant Park 165.
Alex Bowman secured his spot in the Cup Series playoffs, using some bold strategy to captured his first win of 2024, ending an 80-race winless streak in the process. Now, Hendrick Motorsports has all four of their wheelmen locked into the playoffs, with Kyle Larson, William Byron and Chase Elliott in, as well.
Mother Nature certainly affected where each driver stands at the moment, as the rain threw a gigantic at the drivers in Chicago. Check out where we stand after NASCAR’s trip to the Windy City below, as the summer rages on for the Cup Series.

Alex Bowman went from the cut-line to sitting just outside the top ten due to his win in Chicago, putting the heat on the rest of the field who don’t have victories in 2024. While Martin Truex Jr. and Ty Gibbs are both over 80 points to the good, Ross Chastain and Chris Buescher are beginning to sweat.

As for the overall Cup Series standings, Kyle Larson ended up in the wall in Chicago, but he remains the leader by 11 points over his teammate Chase Elliott. Elsewhere, Tyler Reddick made a sizable move due to his podium finish in Chicago, while Denny Hamlin continues to fall due to some subpar racing.

As you can tell, this season’s iteration of the Chicago Street Race had an immense effect on the NASCAR Cup Series standings. With Shane van Gisbergen taken out early in the race, it was anyone’s guess who would end up in Victory Lane, and Alex Bowman took full advantage of the opportunity on Sunday.
