(670 The Score) Seeking more young talent for their rebuild, the White Sox recognize the importance of hitting on their draft picks.

They'll get their chance when the MLB Draft begins Sunday at 6 p.m. CT. The White Sox hold the No. 5 overall pick, and MLB Pipeline writer/analyst Jim Callis believes there are three intriguing prospects in play for the club there.

“Ultimately, their decision is going to come down to three guys,” Callis said on the Mully & Haugh Show on Thursday morning. “And it depends in part also on how the board plays out in front of them. I think it’s Jac Caglianone, the two-way player from Florida who led the nation in homers last year, second this year. He’ll be solely a hitter, solely a first baseman when he turns pro.

“I think he goes (No.) 4 to Oakland, but I think Caglianone would be the guy if he’s there, and then it’s back and forth between (high school outfield prospect) Konnor Griffin and then West Virginia middle infielder JJ Wetherholt, who came into the year as the top-rated prospect in the draft, severe hamstring strain in the first series of the year. He had hamstring issues last year too, which is a concern.

“Wetherholt might be the best hitter in the draft. I think it’s 15-to-20-homer power. He has a chance to play shortstop. He’s probably a second baseman. He runs well. He’ll steal a few bases.”
