WASHINGTON – Democratic organizers have abandoned plans for a fundraiser in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention in August, as support for President Joe Biden wavers , CNN reported.

Organizers decided to not proceed with the event after disagreements over how to proceed in light of Biden's slipping support, CNN reported. Organizers initially paused planning for the event until after the July 4 holiday following Biden’s disastrous June 27 debate performance against Donald Trump .

CNN reported the event would have rallied a few dozen wealthy Chicagoans, and would have brought in less than $1 million for the campaign.

Biden is facing growing pressure and concern from his own party to step aside in the presidential 2024 election.

Thirteen House Democrats have publicly come out against the president, including Rep. Brad Schneider of Illinois on Thursday.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, a top Biden supporter, was caught on a hot microphone on Wednesday seemingly expressing concern about the state of the race.

"I mean, we're just going to keep fighting. I don't know what to say. You know, got to do what we have to do," Pritzker was heard saying to a man at a crime-fighting event unrelated to the 2024 race. "I don't like where we are, but..."

A spokesman for the governor said it "sounds like (Pritzker) was talking about the state of the presidential race," according to CBS .

Biden this week joined a call with more than 200 mayors to discuss the stakes of the 2024 election, and how mayors can play a role to protect Biden’s agenda. Biden told mayors on the call that his campaign “is going to be won with basic block-and-tackling,” according to a readout from the Biden campaign.

“We’ve made thousands of calls. We’re putting up hundreds of signs all across America,” Biden said, according to the readout. “We’re getting people to engage and go out and knock on doors.”
