ARLINGTON, TX (WLNS) – Okemos graduate Caleb Bonemer saw a lifelong dream come true on Sunday night when he was chosen by the Chicago White Sox with the 43rd overall pick in the MLB Draft.

Bonemer was named Michigan’s Gatorade Player of the Year twice while at Okemos. He posted a batting average above .400 this spring and helped the Wolves win a regional championship.

He made a little local history on Sunday night as well, becoming the highest-drafted player to ever come out of the greater Lansing area.

The 43rd overall selection carries a slot value of over two million dollars. Bonemer must decide if he will sign with the White Sox and turn pro or go play in college. He had previously signed to play collegiately at the University of Virginia.
