Police search for 2 people involved in early-morning armed robberies in Chinatown

CHICAGO — Police are searching for the people involved in two early-morning armed robberies on the city’s South Side Side last week.

According to police, the robberies unfolded less than 30 minutes apart in Chinatown on Monday, July 8.

During both robberies, two people exited a grey vehicle before approaching the victims and demanding property at gunpoint.

Officers say the first robbery occurred at 1:05 a.m. in the 2300 block of South Wentworth Avenue.

The second robbery occurred only blocks away, in the 2200 block of South Princeton Avenue, at 1:20 a.m.

On Monday, Chicago police provided video captured by a surveillance camera of one of the robberies.

Officers say they believe the two individuals involved are both males who stand between 5-foot-10 and 6 feet tall.

They were both spotted wearing ski masks, black sweatshirts, black jeans and black shoes.

According to police, a third person was also operating the vehicle, which is believed to be a 2024 model.

Police advise the public to remain aware of their surroundings and stay free from distractions.

Officers say anyone who is confronted by an assailant should try to remain calm.

Those who fall victim or witness a crime should call 911 immediately and provide authorities with a detailed description of the offenders.

Authorities warn the public never to pursue a fleeing assailant and instead work to remember any unique physical characteristics of the offenders.
