Bears young receiver called possible cut candidate with training camp coming

The Chicago Bears have had a great offseason and things are about to get exciting as training camp nears.

Soon enough, the 2024 season will be here too and the Bears are expected to be much improved. Chicago has a real chance to make it back to the postseason after completely revamping its offense but more changes are coming.

Although things are looking up for the Bears, tough decisions will be made in training camp as teams start to trim down rosters.

Bleacher Report's Joe Tansey put together a list of players who need a strong camp in order to avoid possibly being cut and mentioned young receiver Velus Jones as an option.

"Velus Jones is one of the few wide receivers who should start training camp on the edge on the roster," Tansey said. "Jones has been primarily used in the return game during his NFL career, and that is where he will have to make his mark in training camp.

"The Bears will not have many targets available to depth players with D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, and Cole Kmet on the field. The remaining pass-catchers on the roster need to excel at special teams or bring something different to the table than the top players on the roster. Jones' speed could be an asset to the offense, but he has not received much of a chance to prove himself and the Bears may be more willing to use Tyler Scott in that role."

Jones appeared in 14 games last season and had eight catches for 51 yards while spending most of his time on special teams.
