Bears should consider signing ex-Cowboys superstar surprisingly available

The Chicago Bears should make one more major signing before training camp rolls around.

Chicago has had a fantastic offseason and completely reimagined its offense. The Bears are in a great position and some have speculated that the franchise could make it back to the playoffs in 2024.

The Bears' offense looks great on paper but the defense could use another boost and one player who could make sense is former Dallas Cowboys star cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

Gilmore surprisingly still is out there but is looking for another opportunity, according to NFL insider Josina Anderson.

"There are still some good corners and safeties out there like Justin Simmons and myself that are still not signed," Gilmore said as transcribed by Anderson. "Honestly, I’m still being patient and staying ready until teams see what they have in training camp; but you mean to tell me among 32 teams that there are 64 starting corners that are better than me? I don’t think that. If teams want to win, I think they should sign the best players. I know I’m still a starter in this league. I started games last year, but the season doesn’t start until September, we got a while."

He still is out there in free agency and immediately would bolster the Bears' secondary if he were to land there. Gilmore was named the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year and is a five-time Pro Bowler.

The Bears have the cap space to afford him and he would provide more defensive star power for Chicago. There really is no reason not to at least consider a move.
