Longtime disc jockey Ryan Arnold is leaving WXRT.

The big picture: The veteran broadcaster, who helmed afternoons and evenings at the station since 2013, resigned after his hours were cut back.

    • Arnold's full-time afternoon drive position was cut this spring, so the broadcaster shifted to a part-time role without a set time slot.

What they're saying: " I literally grew up at WXRT," Arnold tells Axios. "The highlight of my career has been my lifelong relationship with WXRT, a connection that began when my mother started at the station in 1984."

Between the lines: The station is owned by Audacy , which eliminated positions at most of their radio stations in April.

Zoom out: WXRT is one of Chicago's most iconic broadcast brands — as of May, it held an overall 4.9 share , good for 6th place in the ratings.

    • The station is known for the deep relationships between the listeners and local on-air talent like Terri Hemmert, Marty Lennartz and the late Lin Brehmer .

Yes, but: Recently, WXRT has hired out-of-town talent from various markets .

The intrigue: This week marked the 11th anniversary for Arnold at Chicago's home for modern rock.

    • "It has been a privilege to work at such an iconic station. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve our listeners, share experiences with them and spread the love of music," Arnold says.
