Bears 'very talented' guard surprisingly listed as cut candidate by insider

Training camp is underway for the Chicago Bears, a period that can excite fans and stress out players, especially those battling for a roster spot.

Chicago is not messing around this season. Head coach Matt Eberflus has something to prove, and the Bears' talented young roster -- headlined by Caleb Williams -- will be looking to assert itself.

Grueling practice sessions at Halas Hall this summer will feature multiple position wars, including along Chicago's offensive line. Players who have been with the team for multiple seasons are not necessarily safe, especially as Eberflus, Williams, and Co. look to transform the Bears' culture.

One lineman who is in danger of being cut is third-year guard Ja'Tyre Carter, according to Windy City Gridiron's Greg Gabriel.

Carter is a stellar athlete for his size, but multiple factors might jeopardize his spot on Chicago's new-look roster, Gabriel reported.

"Carter was a seventh-round pick in 2022 out of Southern University," Gabriel said. "Coming from an FCS-level school, he was raw but also very talented. He may be one of the better pure athletes in the Bears' offensive line group."

"Because of injuries to Nate Davis, Carter Last year had to start two games and played in eight others. During the first half of the season, when he got his most playtime, he looked good. ... But for some reason, Carter fell out of favor with the coaching staff. ... Why’s that? None of us has the answer. During the off-season program, he lined up with the second and third string. ... Unless Carter really plays well in the preseason, he may be gone in September."

The nimble-footed Carter, 25, was once recruited to play college basketball at the point guard position. He's a rare kind of athlete would will likely enter another franchise's radar if he fails to impress the Bears' coaching staff over the next few weeks.
