CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A man has died after being rescued from Lake Michigan on the Far North Side late Sunday night.

Chicago Police said officers and Chicago Fire personnel were dispatched to the lake shortly before midnight for a call of a person in distress near Loyola Beach in Rogers Park.

A witness told police the 23-year-old man was seen in the water but did not come out.

First responders eventually spotted the man, and he was pulled from the water. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital where he later died.

The Cook County Medical Examiner has yet to release the identity of the victim.

CPD Area Three detectives are investigating.

Earlier this weekend, another Lake Michigan drowning occurred.

Saturday evening, a 26-year-old man was swimming with two others at Illinois Beach State Park in suburban Zion around 8 p.m. when he went under the water and never resurfaced.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said crews searched the water for about two hours before they found the man and rushed him to a Waukegan hospital.
