Bears WR Keenan Allen Reveals Bold Take On Rookie Playmaker

The Chicago Bears made a splash this offseason, acquiring veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers . He will combine with D.J. Moore to give Caleb Williams an elite duo to work with in the passing game.

Keenan Allen isn’t the only new weapon the Bears added. In free agency, they also signed running back D’Andre Swift away from the Philadelphia Eagles.

But, the newest playmaker that everyone seems most excited about is rookie wide receiver, Rome Odunze. The No. 9 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft has all of the tools to become a dominant No. 1 receiver in the league.

During a recent press conference, even Keenan Allen couldn’t hide his excitement about his new teammate. He praised the rookie playmaker, providing a bold take on just how good Odunze has looked.

“He’s faster, he comes out of his breaks better…he looks more polished than a was as a receiver,” Allen said about the Washington product.

Keenan Allen was a third-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft out of California by the Chargers. He quickly made a move up the depth chart, catching 71 passes for 1,046 yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie.

That was good enough to finish second in the Offensive Rookie of the Year race. Right now, Odunze is 10th when it comes to the odds of winning the award ; Williams is first.

At Washington last season, Odunze earned All-American honors. He caught 92 passes for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns, breaking the century mark in back-to-back seasons.

If Odunze comes close to replicating those numbers, the Bears would be ecstatic. It would likely mean that Williams was as good as advertised, leading arguably the most explosive offense in the NFL.

There may not be a wide receiver trio in the NFL as good as what the Bears have put together this offseason. Moore, Keenan Allen and Odunze all have been No. 1 options in the passing game during their respective careers.

Figuring out how to slow down all three will keep opposing defensive coordinators up late at night. There isn’t a No. 3 receiver in the league that has the upside Odunze showcases, as he will likely start the season behind Moore and Allen in the pecking order for targets.
