(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A "Heavenly Glow" is being restored to a church in the South Loop.

Linda Miller is President of Friends of Historic Second Church, the group helping restore the stained glass windows at the landmark Second Presbyterian Church at 1936 South Michigan.

“Friends of Historic Second Church, our organization is separate from the church and our mission is to restore the art and architecture of this national historic landmark church,” Miller said.

“It is a really beautiful example of the arts and crafts design movement, probably one of the best in the country and it needs work. So we are about the art and the architecture.”

She said the project is not about faith, or religion, but bringing beauty to all Chicagoans.

“It’s just so exciting and we are thrilled to have this happening. We hope people come visit it. It is really a beautiful place.”

The latest stained glass window to be restored, "the Mount of the Holy Cross," has been worked on for more than a year at a shop in New York and is now being put back piece-by-piece this week.

The cost of restoring that window alone is more than a half-million dollars.
