CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The city of Chicago has expanded the groundbreaking lawsuit that it filed earlier this year against Glock, the major gun manufacturer.

Chicago’s original lawsuit, filed back in March, accused Glock of making pistols that can easily be converted to fire like a machine gun.

Steve Kane, the city’s deputy corporation counsel, said the expanded suit adds Glock’s Austria-based parent company and two suburban stores: Eagle Sports Range, in Oak Forest, and Midwest Sporting Goods, in Lyons.

“In addition to alleging that Glock makes these weapons in a way that they are easily modifiable into automatic weapons, Glock and its preferred dealers — that we’ve named as defendants — market the weapons unlawfully as being safe and fail to disclose that these weapons can be so easily modified into machine guns,” Kane said.

Eric Tirschwell, executive director of Everytown Law and co-counsel on the city’s lawsuit, said these “illegal machine guns are showing up on the streets of Chicago in extremely large numbers” and on streets all across the United States.

According to the lawsuit, a video shows an Eagle Sports Range employee showing someone how easy it is to convert the gun to automatic fire.

The suit is said to be the first of its kind, but separate actions and legislation are moving in other states. It is seeking an injunction barring the sales and marketing of the guns.
