    One arrested after anti-Netanyahu protest weaves through Chicago’s Loop Wednesday

    CHICAGO — Supporters of Palestine gathered Wednesday afternoon at Federal Plaza to rally and march in solidarity with a protest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu happening in the nation’s capitol .

    According to police, one person was taken into custody. Charges are pending.

    Members and supporters of the Chicago Coalition for Justice in Palestine gathered at 4:30 p.m. in the 200 block of S. Dearborn Street, according to a statement from the U.S. Palestinian Community Network-Chicago

    “This will be the 44th CJP-led mass mobilization of Palestinians and supporters in Chicagoland since October 8th,” the statement said.

    The alert did not specify the route of the march.

    Pro-Palestine protesters have been demonstrating for the last two days in protest of Netanyahu’s invitation to Washington and his address to Congress, WGN’s Nexstar sister station in Washington reported .

    Illinois Rep. Jan Schakowsky was among several Democrats who planned to skip Netanyahu’s remarks . Vice President Kamala Harris was also absent , as she was campaigning in Indiana. While he said he did not agree with the Israeli prime minister’s policies, Rep. Danny Davis said he was attending “out of respect for the country of Israel and the Israeli people.” Reps. Brad Schneider and Darin LaHood also attended.
