'Chippy' Caleb Williams Is Blowing Up Online After Training Camp Fracas

Caleb Williams' ridiculous talent isn't the only attribute that's quickly made him a favorite among teammates and fans alike in the Windy City.

During the Chicago Bears' first padded practice at training camp on Friday, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft got in the middle of a shoving match between tight end Gerald Everett and defensive end DeMarcus Walker.

"Some fireworks between the defensive line and tight end Gerald Everett," Adam Hoge of CHGO BEARS wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "And who jumped in to keep DeMarcus Walker off his tight end? Caleb Williams."

Clearly, veteran center Ryan Bates was impressed by Williams' willingness to protect his offensive brethren.

"That's my quarterback. I love that. I love that mentality. He's got to be smarter though because we can't have that, God forbid anything happens," Bates said, per Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune. "But I love when he stepped in there and got in the middle of it. That's who he is. He's a chippy guy."

Bears fans, meanwhile, could barely contain their glee over the toughness and leadership Williams showed so early in his career.

It's bound to take some time before Williams lives up to the hype associated with his status as one of the most exciting quarterback prospects to enter the NFL in recent memory.

Early on his path toward realizing that greatness, though, the 22-year-old is already forcefully putting questions about his football character to bed.
