A 16-year-old boy and a man were killed Friday morning when a gunman opened fire in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, according to authorities.

The teen and a 40-year-old man were on the 2500 block of West 46th Street about 10:40 a.m. when a person got out of an SUV, approached the pair and started shooting, Chicago police said.

The boy was shot in the head and chest and was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. The man was taken to the same hospital in grave condition and pronounced dead at 12:06 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The medical examiner’s office identified the boy as Santino Rojas, of Brighton Park. The older victim’s identity wasn’t released Friday night. Autopsies were scheduled for Saturday.

Police didn’t discuss the relationship between the victims, but said no one was in custody and area detectives were investigating the shooting.
