Simone Biles' Husband Reveals Truth Behind Bears' Olympic Decision

The Chicago Bears sent shockwaves across the NFL community after it was revealed that safety Jonathan Owens, who is the husband of USA Gymnastics megastar Simone Biles, was officially excused from training camp to attend the Paris Olympics to support his wife.

This was an unprecedented decision from the Bears, which Owens himself shed some light on during a recent interview.

"The Bears, they understood that it was an Olympic year," Owens said. "So, once I signed and everything, that was the first question we asked.

"... I originally gave them two dates. I wanted to either go for the team final, which is the 30th [of July], or the all-around final, which is August 2nd. And they end up telling me both dates were fine, so I didn't feel like I had to be rushed to get back.

"Super first-class organization. Super blessed, and I'm thankful that they allowed me to go."

Owens also revealed that he splurged a bit by getting first-class plane tickets for the trip home to get himself ready for training camp.

"I got a good seat on the plane," he said. "... I had to [get a first-class ticket]. [I'll] sleep as much as I can."

Being able to support his wife in this incredible milestone means a whole lot for Owens, which is why he's extremely thankful to the Bears. However, the physical presence of her husband in Paris probably means even more for Biles.
