Ex-Manager Ozzie Guillén Blasts White Sox As Team's Historically Embarrassing Season Hits New Low

The Chicago White Sox have been enduring a historically bad season, and former manager Ozzie Guillén didn't hold back his criticism following Monday night's crushing defeat to the Kansas City Royals.

Bobby Witt Jr.'s go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning sealed an 8-5 loss, marking the White Sox's 15th consecutive defeat. The loss set a new franchise record for the longest single-season losing streak, an alarming sign for a team with a storied history dating back to 1901.

Guillén, known for his candid and fiery comments, addressed the state of the team and the mindset of some players after the game.

"For some reason, some players out there think they're gonna get traded," Guillén said. "A couple of guys making comments. ... Who'd want you? For real."

His remarks came in the wake of reports about Garrett Crochet's trade demands, which have thrown a wrench into potential deals for the struggling team. Crochet, a key player for the White Sox and one of best pitchers in the majors this season, has seen his trade value plummet after his management team publicly revealed that any acquiring team would have to adhere to strict load management rules and agree to a contract extension. The White Sox were reportedly blindsided by these demands, which have frustrated both the front office and potential trade partners.

Crochet, who has already undergone Tommy John surgery in his four-year career, is making just $800,000 this season, per Spotrac. While his contract offers a cost-controlled benefit to acquiring teams, the extension demand eliminates much of that financial advantage.

The White Sox's frustration is palpable, as Crochet's situation adds another layer of complexity to an already tumultuous season. With the MLB Trade Deadline looming, the team has been actively making moves, including sending Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham to the St. Louis Cardinals and Michael Kopech to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-team trade.

Chicago's current MLB worst 27-82 record puts them on pace for a staggering 122 losses this season. This marks the first time in franchise history that the team has endured two separate 14-game losing streaks in a single season, a feat last achieved by the 2021 Baltimore Orioles.

As the team heads into August and September, the outlook appears bleak, especially now that the team is guaranteed to finish with a losing record.
