White Sox Trade Eloy Jimenez to Orioles

The Chicago White Sox are trading designated hitter Eloy Jimenez to the Baltimore Orioles, per ESPN's Jeff Passan . The White Sox will receive prospect Trey McGough from the Orioles in the deal, per MASN Sports' Roch Kubatko .

Acquired from the Chicago Cubs at the 2017 trade deadline, Jimenez was expected to be a middle-of-the-order mainstay for the White Sox during their contention window. However, injuries and underperformance made his time on the South Side an underwhelming affair.

The 27-year-old is slashing .240/.297/.345 with nine doubles, five home runs, and 16 RBIs across 294 plate appearances this season. Jimenez will look to provide some thump to an Orioles lineup that's stacked with young talent and looking to make a push for the American League pennant.

This trade will get the White Sox out from under Jimenez's contract, as noted by USA Today's Bob Nightengale .

White Sox Return

Trey McGough, a 26-year-old left-handed pitcher, was unranked among the Orioles' top 30 prospects, per MLB Pipeline. The southpaw owns a 1.99 ERA and 9.11 K/9 in 54.1 innings split between Double-A and Triple-A this season.
