Conservative Commentator in Complete Shock Any Advisor Would Recommend Trump’s Wild NABJ Appearance

Republican strategist Shermichael Singleton was shocked at former President Donald Trump’s decision to question Vice President Kamala Harris’s ethnicity during a wild appearance at a National Association of Black Journalists conference in Chicago.

Singleton joined CNN’s Brianna Keilar and Boris Sanchez minutes after Trump’s Q-and-A session wrapped and the CNN political commentator said he couldn’t express what he actually felt because that would require using “words I probably shouldn’t use on live television.”

“To question the vice president’s ethnicity — I can’t even really say what I want to say about this, but I just think this was a calculated mistake and I would not have advised that,” he said.

At one point, the former president claimed Harris “turned Black,” and the statement earned a quick condemnation from the White House and others.

“I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black,” Trump said at the event. “So I don’t know, is she Indian, or is she Black? I respect either one, but she obviously doesn’t, because she was Indian all the way, and then all of a sudden, she made a turn, she went — she became Black. Somebody should look into that.”

Singleton said he could not wrap his head around what advisors would think this attack on the vice president was a good idea.

“Overall I just don’t see what the net gain here was, and I think a lot of Black people will watch this appearance and then they will point to the former president and they will point to the Republican Party and say this is exactly why we will never give you all the majority of our support,” he said.

Singleton later offered some praise of Trump’s time in the White House, but the shocked strategist said there was simply no way to spin the NABJ appearance as good.

“It would be ridiculous for me as a Black man, regardless of my political beliefs, to come on this network and pretend that was a great moment when I know it wasn’t,” he said.
