DJ Moore Urges Chicago Bears To Extend Another Key Playmaker

DJ Moore signed a four-year, $110 million contract extension with the Chicago Bears on Wednesday, and now, the wide receiver is urging the Bears to come to terms with another key playmaker.

    Keenan Allen.

“I was like, man, listen. What’s your number? Let’s get it done,” Moore said of Allen, via Josh Schrock of NBC Sports Chicago. “And I mean, I’m going to leave his number out of it. But I think we can get it done.”

Allen is entering the final year of his deal and is slated to earn $18.1 million in base salary in 2024.

The Bears acquired the veteran wide out in a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers earlier this offseason, and some feel that Allen will merely be a one-and-done in Chicago.

However, Allen said in June that he would be open to an extension.

“I’m going to play as long as I can,” said Allen, who is 32 years old. “As far as an extension, I’m going to let the play speak for itself, and if they offer me something that I like, we’ll go from there.”

Allen spent the first 11 years of his career with the Chargers, making six trips to the Pro Bowl. Last season, he hauled in 108 receptions for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns in 13 games.

The Bears could have a lethal aerial attack in 2024

The Bears could ultimately boast one of the deadliest sets of weapons in the NFL this coming season.

Not only did Chicago add Allen this offseason, but it also selected wide receiver Rome Odunze with the ninth overall pick of the NFL Draft. Plus, the Bears signed running back D’Andre Swift and tight end Gerald Everett in free agency, and they already had Moore and tight end Cole Kmet on the roster.

Of course, Chicago highlighted the draft by taking quarterback Caleb Williams No. 1 overall.

Obviously, much of the Bears’ offensive success will hinge on what Williams brings to the table during his rookie campaign, but there is no question that Chicago’s offense looks great on paper.

Moore himself caught 96 passes for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns in 2023, and those numbers came with inconsistent quarterback play.

The 27-year-old pass-catcher almost certainly won’t be getting 136 targets with all of the other weapons that now exist in the Bears’ offensive attack, but DJ Moore has proven that he can be a legitimate No. 1 receiver.

We’ll see if Allen plays well enough in 2024 to make Chicago want to extend him.
