The Chicago Cubs are in an interesting spot right now.

Chicago currently has a 52-58 record and is 6 1/2 games out of a National League Wild Card spot but opted to add ahead of the deadline. The Cubs made one of the more surprising moves of the summer by acquiring Isaac Paredes in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. He will be an important part of the offense for the foreseeable future and helps.

The Cubs also reportedly were one of six teams that reached out to the San Francisco Giants about a possible trade for San Francisco Giants ace Blake Snell, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

"Let me get to the teams that actually called on Snell because I don't think I revealed all six teams anywhere," Heyman said. "(New York Yankees), (Baltimore Orioles), (Chicago Cubs), (San Diego Padres), (Los Angeles Dodgers), (and) (Texas Rangers)."

Snell didn't end up getting traded, but the fact that the Cubs were involved in possible trade talks is interesting. Chicago had been mentioned as a possible option but this is the first time the full list was revealed.

The lefty has a player option for the 2025 season but possibly could decline it and enter free agency. This means that the Cubs at least had some interest in a blockbuster deal that could've turned into a rental in order to make some noise this season.

The Cubs are 6 1/2 games out of a Wild Card spot, but the National League has had a roller coaster of a season overall. Chicago has the talent to make up some ground and landing Snell would've helped with this fact.

It sounds like the Cubs aren't giving up on the 2024 season just yet.
