Hall of Fame induction ceremonies can be emotional moments for players and their families as a lifetime of hard work, dedication and physical sacrifice are rewarded with the legacy that comes with being known as one of the game's all-time greats.
Saturday's Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony included one of the most emotional induction moments in recent memory. Teammates of Chicago Bears inductee Steve McMichael gathered at his home in Chicago to unveil his Hall of Fame bust as part of the 2024 class.
McMichael was diagnosed with ALS in April 2021 and was unable to attend Saturday's ceremony in Canton, Ohio.
McMichael's sister, Kathy, delivered his speech.
Incredibly, McMichael had that moment with his family and former teammates. ALS is a devastating illness that impacts muscle movement and breathing.
McMichael spent 13 of his 15 NFL seasons with the Bears between 1981 and 1993. He was a member of the vaunted '85 Bears defense that dominated its way to the franchise's only Super Bowl win. He finished his career with 95 sacks, two Pro Bowl appearances and two first-team All-Pro honors.
He is one of two Bears to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame this weekend, joining return specialist Devin Hester.
