The Chicago Cubs are still in the hunt for the 2024 postseason after an impressive series win against the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend. However, as Jedd Hoyer, President of the Chicago Cubs mentioned, the team is looking in the direction of 2025 and beyond.

With that in mind, the future stars of the club may not be on the team's active roster. They could look elsewhere this coming offseason to fill necessary holes in the team's rotation or lineup but if they choose to be conservative at the winter meeting and into the 2025 regular season, the team may have the needed depth regardless.

That is with the team's impressive farm system.

The Cubs have built one of the better minor league organizations over the past few seasons and as of the beginning of the 2024 season, MLB Pipeline had them ranked as the second-best farm system in baseball only behind the Baltimore Orioles.

Some of those top prospects have worked their way into receiving a promotion to the next level over the weekend for their strong performance in the first half of the year. It was announced on Sunday that three players, Matt Shaw , James Triantos , and Kevin Alcantara are being promoted to Triple-A Iowa.

Shaw, was the Cubs first round draft pick (13th overall) in the 2023 MLB Draft out of the University of Maryland. The infielder has had a great season so far with Double-A Tennessee Smokies as finished that level of play being named the Southern League Player of the Week. In 2024, he is hitting .279/.373/.468 with 14 homers, 50 RBIs and 25 stolen bases. He is considered the second best prospect in the Cubs organization and the 41st best across MLB according to Baseball America.

Triantos, was the Cubs second round draft pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. The second baseman hit .300/.345/.437 with seven homers, 40 RBIs, and 38 stolen bases. He is considered the seventh best prospect in the Cubs organization according to Baseball America.

Alcantara was acquired by the Chicago Cubs in the Anthony Rizzo trade at the 2021 MLB Deadline. The outfielder is hitting .271/.342/.409 with nine homers, 39 RBIs, and seven stolen bases. He is considered the fifth best prospect in the Cubs organization and 84th best across MLB according to Baseball America.

All three of these players will battle for a starting spot on the 2025 Opening Day roster, and it wouldn't be surprising if at least one of them gets a cup of coffee before the season is over with the main club.
