Chicago White Sox Lose 21st Consecutive Game, Tying American League Record

    By Dave Ettinger,

The Chicago White Sox are making history on a daily basis. The only problem is, it's the wrong kind of history. Monday night, the White Sox fell to the Oakland Athletics 5-1, losing their 21st consecutive game. This ties the American League record for consecutive losses since 1901.

With Monday night's loss, the White Sox have tied the 1988 Baltimore Orioles who lost 21 games in a row. And now, they sit just two games shy of the MLB record set by the 1961 Philadelphia Phillies, who lost 23 games in a row.

The White Sox now hold a 27-88 record on the season and are on pace to finish with a record of 38-124. That would break the record for most losses (and worst winning percentage) in a 162-game MLB season. The 2003 Detroit Tigers finished 43-119 and the 1962 New York Mets finished 40-120-1. These are the worst records in MLB's' modern era.

At this point, the jokes write themselves:

And, someone should give this guy a major award for his commitment to his team:

And lastly, this is exactly how everyone SHOULD feel when they watch Chicago White Sox baseball:

If the White Sox were to get swept on their current three-game road trip against the Oakland Athletics, they will have tied the 1961 Phillies with 23 consecutive losses. They would break the MLB record if they were to lose, at home, against their crosstown rival, Chicago Cubs on Friday, August 9th.

We wouldn't call it appointment TV, but at this point the White Sox are at least providing one form of entertainment on a daily basis.
