New Bremen Firemen's Picnic returns and continues tradition since 1921
NEW BREMEN, OH (WLIO) - The longest-running picnic in Auglaize County returns yet for another year Friday in New Bremen!. The New Bremen Firemen's Picnic kicked off Friday afternoon with the "Firemen's Memorial 5K Fun Run," along with food and beverages. Since 1921, the firemen's picnic has been a chance for the New Bremen German Township Fire Department to connect with the community they serve. While building the family atmosphere, the picnic also helps raise funds to support the fire department, allowing firefighters to strengthen their equipment and services in the event a neighbor needs help.
Home Harvest Dinner is Sept. 14
NORTH STAR — On Saturday, Sept. 14, the Versailles FFA and FFA Alumni are hosting Home Harvest Dinner – A Farm to Fork Event at the North Star Community Center, 124 E. Star Road, North Star. The goal of this event is to promote production agriculture in the Versailles and surrounding communities in addition to highlighting specific experiences and products the FFA members partake in.

Blue Angels hold June meeting
The Blue Angels 4-H club had a meeting at Faith Baptist Church on June 5 from 6-8 p.m. The meeting involved topics of 4-H camp, discussing dates and times for project presentation day, voting on Adopt a Tree and Fish With a Hero, and also a presentation about mower safety from Flory’s Landscaping.
Lima community honors late Kewpee owner Harry Shutt
Jul. 26—LIMA — Messages of sympathy have been growing on social media as news spread of the death of Harry Shutt, a man whose name is synonymous with Kewpee Hamburgers in Lima. Shutt was 92. UM Professor to give talk in Maumee on political misinformation
Barbara McQuade, the former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan and a current law professor at the University of Michigan, will talk about disinformation in American politics during a program at the Maumee Branch Library. Ms. McQuade’s recently published book, Attack from Within: How Disinformation is Sabotaging America, explores how authoritarian regimes throughout history have utilized disinformation to consolidate power and ways to combat the rise of these trends in the United States. The event, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, is hosted by the Maumee Branch Library in association with the UM alumni association.
Wapakoneta car dealership celebrating grand opening Saturday
WAPAKONETA — The grand opening of Wapakoneta Ford under new ownership will take place Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. at 613 Dixie Highway. Maryem Rah purchased the dealership in June when it was known as Braden Ford. This is her fourth dealership, and the first to expand from her group of dealerships in the Cincinnati area. “We’re not just about selling cars; we’re about empowering people,” Rah said.
Flooding concern at Madonna Homes apartments
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - A Madonna Homes resident claims they have been dealing with a flooded apartment and mold growing under the sink for the last week. The resident’s apartment had at least an inch of water on the ground with a backed-up sink and sitting water on his kitchen countertop. The resident said it is unbearable and he just wants something done.
Maumee announces plans to re-evaluate sewer ordinance
In response to efforts by a citizens group to repeal the city’s sewer inspection and remediation ordinance, Maumee officials announced Friday afternoon that they are re-evaluating the ordinance as part of “a multi-faceted approach to addressing the sanitary sewer system problems.” Officials said they are “working to determine how the city might spend public money on private property for a private purpose” and will “continue conversations and negotiations with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.” They also said the city will expand the proposed sewer repair grant program “to provide additional financial relief to our residents” and that the city “is committed to supporting the democratic process and the citizens’ initiative” to repeal the ordinance the city implemented in June. Another aspect of the plan announced Friday was the city’s intentions to hold a series of roundtable sessions with the community “to gather input on the solutions needed to address our city’s sanitary sewer problems.”
