Veterans honored on Shelby County Fair
SIDNEY — The Shelby County Fair honored veterans on Monday with a program hosted by the Shelby County Veterans Services. Judy Johnson, retired Army and Vice President of the Veterans Service Commission, welcomed veterans, their families, and the community to the 42nd annual Veterans Day at the Shelby County Fair. Her father, William “Smoky” Higgins, established the first Veterans Day at the Fair and she was glad to continue the tradition.

16-year-old leads troopers on high speed pursuit on I-75 before crashing stolen vehicle
LIMA, Ohio (WTVG) - A 16-year-old allegedly driving a stolen Chevy Impala led police on a high speed chase starting just before midnight Thursday. Ohio State Highway Patrol spotted the vehicle traveling north on I-75 near Lima. That tried to pull it over, but the driver would attempt to evade them for 11 miles before striking another vehicle and rolling several times in the median.

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - As the country waits for the Summer Olympics to begin, some Lima athletes are gearing up to compete in their own Olympics. Jury selected as murder trial in missing man case gets under way
Prosecutors and a defense lawyer for a man charged with the death of his father chose a jury of five women and nine men Thursday, with trial testimony scheduled to begin Friday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court. Timothy Darrow, 39, of the 4100 block of Peak Street is charged with two alternative murder counts stemming from the July 27, 2017, disappearance and presumed death of Alvin Darrow, 63, from the 300 block of Majestic Drive in North Toledo. While questioning potential jurors before Judge Dean Mandros, prosecutor Jennifer Liptack-Wilson addressed the fact that there was no dead body found in the case. “Do you think that there is a rule requiring the state of Ohio to produce a deceased body in a murder case?” Ms. Liptack-Wilson asked. “No. None of you would be here then, right?”

'A piece of heaven': Toledo Catholics invigorated after National Eucharistic Congress
A young Daniel Thomas once sat in a pew at Mass and noticed his father striking his breast and saying, “My Lord and my God,” at the consecration. That was the Toledo bishop’s earliest memory of coming to understand the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Those words, spoken by the apostle Thomas after Jesus’ resurrection, are included on the bishop’s personal coat of arms. Bishop Thomas also used the biblical story in the impact session he gave Friday afternoon to some of the 60,000 Catholics gathered in Indianapolis for the 10th National Eucharistic Congress, the first in nearly a century. He and Sister Mercy Marie spoke about the mercy shown in the Eucharist, especially as it relates to abortion. Come November, Bishop Thomas will head the Committee on Pro-Life Activities for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for a three-year term.
