According to NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information, May 2024 was 13th warmest May on record. The average temperatures across the United States in May was 62.3 degrees, that’s 2.1 degrees above average.

Most of the above average temperatures were across the eastern part of the country, including us here in New England. We made it up into the 90s on two days during the month of May at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee.

For meteorological spring, from March to May the average temperature was 2.8 degrees above average and tied 2016 as the sixth warmest spring on record. Year to date, the period from January to May the average temperature was 3.4 degrees above average ranking it as the fifth warmest on record for that period.

Right now, it’s looking like we’ll be seeing some more above average temperatures as we head through the month of June.
