CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Passengers on a boat received minor injuries after hitting something in the water and disabling the boat Wednesday night.

Traffic advisory for Springfield’s July 4th fireworks

Chicopee police were called around 8:45 p.m. for assistance with the disabled boat on the Connecticut River, south of the Holyoke Dam. The operator of the boat managed to get to shore and find help for passengers that received minor injuries on board.

Chicopee Police were deployed onto the river to try and recover the boat but they were unable to get it out of the river due to its conditions. They were, however, able to secure it to the shore for safety.

Chicopee Police are reminding everyone to wear life jackets and operate responsibly if you plan to go out boating this Fourth of July.
