    College Community Drive provides school supplies to Chicopee freshmen

    CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The beginning of the school year will be here sooner than you know and the community came together for the Rookie Going to College Community Drive to help incoming freshman stock up on school supplies and dorm essentials for their fall semester.

    “We are living in tough times and we understand not every student has a great supporter by their side like a parent or caregiver so what we want to do is just alleviate some costs,” said Cheli, organizer of the drive.

    People were able to drop off gift cards, notebooks, pencils and pens. This drive was all about helping college students in need and making sure that they can continue their education.

    When it comes to community drives like this, Cheli said there needs to be more for incoming college students.

    “We have never seen something like this for college students we see it for younger kids and other types events and I feel like they struggle too.”

    If you did not get a chance to donate you can still drop off your donations:

    • Moda Mia in Chicopee: Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until August 28th
    • Wellpoint Health Solutions in Wilbraham : Tuesdays & Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until August 8th
    • Lids Live Well in Chicopee : Weekdays before 2 p.m.
