Small Animal Showman of Showmen contest takes place at Ross County Fair

CHILLICOTHE — As members of 4-H compete against each other they vie for the title of showman for their animal. On Thursday the small animal showmen competed for an even bigger title — Showman of Showmen.

Contestants showed their knowledge with a written test about cavy and three showman tests with poultry, rabbits and pygmy goats. The groups were broken up by level of experience: junior, intermediate and senior. While working with the animals different from what they brought to the fair contestants answered questions about the species to highlight their knowledge as well as showmanship.

After each section was complete the contest judges combined their scores to determine who would be named winner. They also explained what they were looking for in terms of animal handling and anatomy questions.

The Small Animal Showman of Showmen were:

• Junior: Dalton Dudzinski
• Intermediate: Lily England
• Senior: McKenzie Kitchen

All participants received a ribbon signifying their accomplishment, top showmen of each class were gifted a customized jacket.
