Ross County Fair names Homemaker of the Year

CHILLICOTHE — From potholders and quilts to iced brownies and canned broccoli Terri Cory of Frankfort does it all which is why she was named the 2024 Homemaker of the Year at the Ross County Fair when she received 405 points for her entered pieces.

This year the competition was even tougher as the home arts building saw an increase in overall submissions from men and women of all ages. Cory entered 155 projects she created while handling her personal life, managing her farm and volunteering on many local boards.

Growing up Cory said she liked to draw and sew, even sewing clothes for her and her family while participating in 4-H as a kid. She is incredibly thankful for her time in 4-H which helped her learn a variety of skills at an early age that she uses to this day.

Some of her favorite items entered were her quilts and a miniature Christmas diorama.

Entering the competition was something Cory always thought about doing and after some encouragement she decided to go for it even though she had "no idea" what was needed to become Homemaker of the Year. This is why she was so excited to have won in her first year of participating.

"I just did what I did and kept my fingers crossed," said Cory.

As an active member of her community, she encourages anyone who is interested in joining and participating in events like this to give it a try.

"It's a fun way to be involved in the community," said Cory.

As the winner Cory was awarded $150 which she donated back to the organization as a way to thank them for what they do.

"I was happy to give that back to them," said Cory. "They are a great group of ladies."

Every year each entrant is given points based on how they place in the different categories and the person with the most points is named Homemaker of the Year. Participants are only able to win the title of Homemaker of the Year once every five years
