Large Animal Showman of Showmen winners named at Ross County Fair

CHILLICOTHE — From cows to pigs and every large far animal in-between the large animal showmen winners competed on Friday at the fair to see who would be named large Animal Showman of Showmen.

Showmen are tasked with demonstrating their knowledge through showmanship and a written test of large animals like dairy cows, beef cattle, horses, sheep, market goats, dairy goats and hogs. Showmen had to work with every animal except the one they originally brought to the fair.

This year contestants battled through nerves, a bloody nose and even an escaped lamb.

Contestants were broken up into classes of junior, intermediate and senior. The groups cycled through each animal during the event as judges ranked them. Judges then combined the scores to determine the winners.

The winners were:

• Junior Showman of Showmen-Carli Wireman
• Intermediate Showman of Showmen-Rilee Adkins
• Senior Showman of Showmen- Kailee Adkins
